Steve Mai founded Eclipse Automation in Cambridge, Ontario in 2001 and has led it as CEO for 25 years. He started at a bench rather than a desk; a Tool and Die Maker by trade, he completed his apprenticeship at Conestoga College, which later named him an Alumni of Distinction for his contributions to industry and innovation.  
 
That hands-on grounding still shapes how Eclipse operates: the company takes on builds’ others turn down and owns the outcome from concept through commissioning. 
 
Under his leadership, Eclipse grew from a Canadian startup into a global automation provider—roughly one million square feet of manufacturing space, nearly 900 employees, and more than 20 facilities across three continents, serving manufacturers in nuclear, life sciences, EV and automotive, electronics, battery, and aerospace.  
Accenture acquired Eclipse in 2022, pairing its engineering depth with digital, AI, and cloud capability at scale. In 2025, Steve led the buy-back that returned the company to private ownership. 
 
In addition to his professional achievements, Steve is deeply committed to giving back, actively supporting numerous philanthropic initiatives in the Cambridge, Kitchener, and Waterloo communities.
